Confessions

Image
Confessions Album ∙ Pop ∙ 2025 Mimi Webb Mimi Webb’s  Confessions  is packed with self-assured pop goodness, but the singer-songwriter had so many doubts about it she abandoned her initial ideas. “The first version of the album was completely scrapped,” Webb tells Apple Music Radio. “I wrote it about a year and a half ago and I just freaked out and felt so uninspired. I was like, ‘I can’t sing these bloody songs for the next two years on tour. There’s just no way.’ Even though I had so much love for them, it wasn’t touching the surface for me, it wasn’t deep enough for what I was going through in my day-to-day life.” Webb admits starting again on the follow-up to 2023’s  Amelia  was a challenge, but it’s one that left her “very happy.” And putting in that extra shift paid off, with 12 songs that show the emotional range of mid-twenties life. Webb shot to fame in the early 2020s with the Charli D’Amelio-endorsed “Before I Go,” and  Confessions  finds her div...

Still Shinin

Image
Still Shinin Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 4batz After “act ii: date @ 8” hit, nothing was the same for 4batz. That major viral moment sent the Dallas singer hurtling into the spotlight, collaborating with stars like Drake, Lil Baby, and USHER, to name just a few. Endeared to ’90s-meets-2000s R&B aesthetics yet skillfully refurbished with modern Southern hip-hop appeal, 2024’s  u made me a st4r  provided a more complete picture of the type of artist he aimed to be. “I just was dealing with a lot of pressure going in my last project,” he tells Apple Music. “I had to settle down and remind myself that I could still do this.” For his follow-up  Still Shinin , sporting solid features from Texas rappers Maxo Kream and Zillionaire Doe, his endeavors to self-define and self-assess continue to progress in his favor. “We from Texas, so it hit different,” he says. “We showing y’all the culture right now, man.” With Swishahouse co-founder and Chopstars DJ OG Ron C frequently poppi...

I NEVER GAVE AF

Image
I NEVER GAVE AF Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 Raq baby Like so many of the Atlanta superstars who have helped shape modern rap music, the city’s Raq baby has an almost preternatural gift for melody. He rarely writes hooks, instead choosing to infuse every one of his bars with a sticky-sweet singsong flow. The best way to figure out what differentiates a verse from a chorus is listening to hear which one he repeats. It allows Raq baby to rap like he’s sprinting to a finish line only he can see, rhyming lyric after lyric with zero intention of stopping until the beat quits playing and the recording engineer tells him it’s time to go home. The energy of his delivery and earworm nature of the vocals belie some intense, deeply personal subject matter. On the album opener, “DoorDash (OMG),” he laments that he’s bad at embracing how he feels, but goes crazy over his pills. On “Feel Bad,” which features G Herbo, he acknowledges that he can’t go anywhere without a weapon, knowing that one slip-up ...

Man Up

Image
Man Up Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 Ice Cube Ice Cube’s  Man Up  is a sequel of sorts, a companion piece to his 2024 album,  Man Down . Whereas  Man Down  was buoyed by braggadocious rap cuts like “It’s My Ego” and the vicious gangsta rap throwback “So Sensitive,”  Man Up  leans into Cube’s more philosophical side. He plays the activist and leader on his 2025 effort: On “Before Hip Hop,” he examines the ways in which rap music is blamed for many societal ills that existed long before the genre came to fruition. “Act My Age,” which features Scarface, is an homage to and encouragement toward all the MCs who are rapping into middle age and bringing valuable perspectives to a genre led by younger artists. It’s uplifting, and though it’s one of many tracks imbued with a positive social message, Cube still leaves plenty of time to mess around and talk shit over classic gangsta rap beats. “Forget Me If You Ain’t Wit Me” is crafted for top-down cruises on the 91...

Breach

Image
Breach Album ∙ Alternative ∙ 2025 twenty one pilots Since blowing up in 2015 with their fourth album,  Blurryface , the duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have parlayed their high-concept rap-rock-pop hybrid into massive mainstream success. All the while, they’ve built an ornate fictional universe in which the exploits of characters like Clancy and the Torchbearer function as allegories about living with depression, anxiety, and insecurity.  Breach , the duo’s eighth album, concludes the decade-long narrative that began with  Blurryface  and continued with their next three full-lengths (2018’s  Trench , 2021’s  Scaled and Icy , and 2024’s  Clancy ), resolving the cliffhanger of its predecessor’s ending. Through a dense rap-rock dystopia populated by robots and necromancers, the duo fight through bouts of insecurity (“Garbage”) and paranoia (“The Contract,” which recruits YUNGBLUD to continue where last year’s “Paladin Strait” left off). “Did you learn a ...

THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY!

Image
THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY! Album ∙ Pop ∙ 2025 JADE When JADE made her bombastic solo debut with “Angel of My Dreams” in July 2024, her yet to be named album had already been completed. The song, a Mike Sabath production that splices power-ballad theatrics, stomping electro basslines, and sugary, sardonic melodies into a Frankenstein’s monster of a tune, was hailed by fans and critics alike for its bold experimentalism, setting up sky-high expectations for the Little Mix star’s future output. As JADE told Apple Music’s Rebecca Judd, shortly after its release: “There’s a lot of songs on the record that have that same experimental vibe. I have a few of the more straight-down-the-line, poppy songs on there, but peppered in with the chaos that is my brain.” The statement holds water now  THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY!  has landed. Front-loaded with singles, which see JADE navigate shimmering disco sensuality (“Fantasy”), ballroom club (RAYE co-write “Midnight Cowboy”), and no-punches-pulled electr...

181: New Study Shows that Shiitake Could Lower Risk of Cancer Podcast Episode ∙ Science ∙ 2025 ∙ 14 minutes, 48 seconds Flora Funga Podcast KK the Plant Biologist with a Thirst for Mycology Ask Flora Funga Podcast anything OR Leave a Review In this episode of Flora Funga Podcast, we dive into the powerful healing potential of shiitake mushrooms—specifically a compound called lentinan, a purified β-glucan found in these fungi. Recent studies have shown that lentinan can significantly boost the immune system and fight off tumor growth in mice, even when given by mouth. In one study, mice given lentinan for just 7 days showed a tumor inhibition rate of over 94%. This compound helped increase key immune signals in the blood and activated lymphocytes—immune cells that were then transferred to other immune-deficient mice, who also experienced reduced tumor growth. These findings highlight the incredible role shiitake mushrooms may play in future natural therapies for immune support and cance...

COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES - EP

Image
COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES - EP Album ∙ K-Pop ∙ 2025 CORTIS Like Big Hit Entertainment labelmates BTS before them, the members of boy group Color Outside the Lines, or CORTIS, burst onto the K-pop scene eager to tell their own stories of youth. From the exclamatory trap anthem “GO!” to grunge-rock lead single “What You Want” to reference-heavy hip-hop track “FaSHioN,” teen members James, Juhoon, Martin, Seonghyeon, and Keonho strive to be seen as a group that doesn’t fit into any of the traditional K-pop boxes—and “for the whole world to know [their] name.” But it’s comparatively minimalist EP tracks like “JoyRide” and “Lullaby” that have some of the most unexpected things to say. On the latter—a hazy, acoustic ode to an already weary Generation Z—CORTIS interrupts a serenade of  ooh s with a shouted yet still soothing refrain: “I GOT WORK/YOU GOT WORK/BUT IN THIS MOMENT/QUIET FIRST.” A valuing of respite alongside the boldest of global pop ambitions.
