Why Not More? (Extended)

Why Not More? (Extended) Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 Coco Jones Coco Jones’ debut album  Why Not More?  is a hard-fought culmination of years of work with her talents on full display since childhood. However, her transition from Disney teen actor to singer during the 2010s was rocky, with a robust discography of singles and EPs under her belt before she eventually parted ways with her first label. “I got signed when I was 14 and dropped when I was 16, and it was disappointing because I had this feeling that as soon as I get that one opportunity, it’ll all grow like rapid fire,” Jones tells Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis. “It did not go that way. I think that was when, inwardly, there was a shift in me, and it went from certain to foggy and unsure what I was going to get in return for all of this effort.” Despite navigating an often turbulent industry, Jones has laid the groundwork over the last couple of years, starting with the success of her 2023 breakout EP  What I Didn’...

MUTT Deluxe: HEEL

MUTT Deluxe: HEEL Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 Leon Thomas MUTT Deluxe: HEEL Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 Leon Thomas Leon Thomas wears seemingly every hat there is: He sings, he writes songs, he acts, and he produces. Despite being spread thin in a million different directions, he manages to excel in all these fields. After years of dedicating his talent to acting and writing songs for other artists, he emerged in 2023 with his solo debut,  Electric Dusk , via Ty Dolla $ign’s EZMNY imprint. A year later, he released its follow-up,  MUTT , a convincing sign that Thomas is all in on this latest endeavor. MUTT  finds Thomas showcasing his vocal prowess and lyrical talent alike, telling stories of love lost and betrayal, staggering his way through empty relationships as he looks for his soulmate. On “SAFE PLACE,” he sings over screeching guitars and the persistent beat of a ride cymbal bell, admitting, “I see the glass half empty.” On “FAR FETCHED,” which features his label bo...

Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not

Image
Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 Fridayy Philadelphia-hailing singer, songwriter, and producer Fridayy has been anything but short of work since performing a song-making chorus on DJ Khaled’s devotional 2022 hit “GOD DID.” Besides releasing his self-titled debut in 2023, Fridayy worked with Chris Brown, GloRilla, Polo G, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Tee Grizzley, and even Will Smith, to name but a few. Yet “GOD DID” is what the general public knows him for. It’s a powerful song with equally powerful collaborators (Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, JAY-Z, John Legend), but with  Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not , one of hip-hop’s favorite chorus artists is out to prove there’s plenty more to love. Like the voice of Fridayy himself,  Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not  is both inherently gospel and R&B, the singer splitting his time between devotions to significant other and to higher power. You can hear how enamored he is with a particular woman...

F**k A Friendzone 2

Image
F**k A Friendzone 2 Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 Jacquees   &   DeJ Loaf As the lines between rap and R&B have grown increasingly blurred, sometimes the only thing to do is go back to basics. Neither Jacquees or Dej Loaf are old enough to claim unc status, but both singers know the power of classic R&B. No trap beats or bells and whistles—just straight-up baby-making music. It’s been eight years since the pair released the first installment of their  Fuck a Friendzone  mixtape series, but their chemistry endures on sultry duets like “Favorite One” and “You Still Belong to Somebody Else,” which nod to the sexy, sincere radio R&B of the 2000s. Amid all that velvety-voiced crooning, there’s just enough drama to keep things interesting, like Dej’s sly admission on the slinky “Myself”: “Thought I had a man, whole time I had a lady.”

$ome $exy $ongs 4 U

Image
$ome $exy $ongs 4 U Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 PARTYNEXTDOOR   &   Drake On the cover of  $ome $exy $ongs 4 U , we see PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake tricked out in furry winter gear, posing in front of a pair of buildings that’ll be familiar to anyone who’s ever driven past PND’s hometown of Mississauga, on the western fringe of Toronto. Now, the Absolute World high-rise condos may not be an internationally recognized landmark on par with the CN Tower (which famously graced Drake’s 2016 blockbuster  Views ), but it’s a fitting visual emblem of the more low-stakes, bringing-it-all-back-home ethos that defines their first full-length collaboration. Even your grandma knows that 2024 was a rough year for Drake, so in that sense, Mississauga represents a proverbial safe space where he can recalibrate and experiment outside the limelight alongside a loyal protégé who’s stood by his side through thick and thin. $ome $exy $ongs 4 U  was originally advertised as an EP to ...

Hurry Up Tomorrow

Image
Hurry Up Tomorrow Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 The Weeknd On what was meant to be the last date of his 2022 tour, The Weeknd took the stage at Inglewood, California’s SoFi Stadium, but when he opened his mouth to sing for 80,000 screaming fans, nothing came out. Over the past 14 years, Abel Tesfaye has experienced what you might call pop’s glow-up of the century: When he emerged from obscurity as the faceless voice behind 2011’s noir-ish  House of Balloons  mixtape, nobody could have guessed that he’d be headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show a decade later. But that moment onstage triggered what Tesfaye has since described as a breakdown, inspiring a period of intense reflection on his life and career—and  Hurry Up Tomorrow , his sixth studio album. Tesfaye has called  Tomorrow  the final chapter in the trilogy he began with 2020’s  After Hours , the album that launched him into a new stratosphere of pop success, and continued with 2022’s high-concept...
