Gabito Ballesteros

Rising in música mexicana via a string of 2023 and 2024 hits and fan favorites alongside some of the genre’s brightest, Gabito Ballesteros reached star status with a viral swiftness. By the time his album THE GB dropped, he’d become one of the more prominent young figures in the modern corridos scene. Yet on his follow-up Ya No Se Llevan Serenatas, the singer reveals a previously muted romantic side, now fully on display as he gives voice to relatable matters of the heart.

Songs like “PICASSO” and the rousing “OTRO LOKERON” show how seamlessly such themes suit his existing style. A spectrum of emotions fills the substantial album’s contents, from the jealous rage simmering on “NISSANCITA” to the conciliatory come-ons behind “DISNEYLANDIA.” His earnest performance on “ÁREA 51 V1” bolsters the track’s case for loving protections, all the more impressive when he subsequently concedes in owning flaws on the apologetic “INFINITO.” Even when he’s asking for forgiveness, there’s an undeniable edge that helps justify why he’d be taken back.

Though somewhat less reliant on features than THE GB was, Ya No Se Llevan Serenatas nonetheless includes its fair share of artist reunions and fresh configurations for Ballesteros, including influence-expanding cuts with Carin León and Christian Nodal. Frequent studio cohort Natanael Cano continues their collaborative streak on “DOSIS DE AMOR,” while Tito Double P lends his unmistakable, charming snarl to “7 DÍAS.” Still, he holds on to a few surprises until near the end for those listening straight through, pivoting to the dance floor for the feverish “LA TROKA” and proving himself a capable balladeer on the piano-accented "NOS QUEDAMOS CON LAS GANAS.”
