YoungBoy Never Broke Again

After seven releases in 2022 and four more in 2023, 2024 was a decidedly light year for YoungBoy Never Broke Again, with just one project, I Just Got a Lot on My Shoulders. He followed that up in the beginning of 2025 with a compilation, More Leaks, a gift to fans while his legal problems resolved themselves. The tape was a bridge to MASA, his highly anticipated 2025 studio effort that arrived at the end of July. YoungBoy quickly got back to his old tricks of flooding the marketplace, though, as just two weeks later he returned with DESHAWN, hosted by none other than DJ Khaled.

The mixtape is a victory lap of sorts, a way for YoungBoy to get back in the rhythm of cooking up new music like everyone else cooks up meals. While MASA found YoungBoy reflecting on his legal battles and struggles to forgive himself for previous sins, he’s optimistic though rightfully guarded on its follow-up. Opener “AI Marley” features wise words from the project’s host, with Khaled declaring, “More money, more solutions,” while on “La Vida Loca” his excitement is nearly palpable when he raps, “Check the timing on my watch, I think my moment be right now.”

Damaged Thoughts Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 Bay Swag Bay Swag has tangentially been related to the rap game since he was a young boy, but his career took off in earnest in 2024 when he was featured on Cash Cobain’s New York City takeover hit, “Fisherrr.” Hip-hop devotees will also know Bay from another source: His father is Lloyd “Bay Lloyd” McKenzie, a legendary New York rap figure who has been incarcerated since 2017.
