Loner

Loner Album ∙ Electronic ∙ 2025 Barry Can't Swim “I found myself in a new world of touring and chaos so quickly that I built a separation between myself as Josh and Barry on stage to deal with it,” Josh Mainnie tells Apple Music. “But when it came to writing this album, I knew it had to be for me as Josh. I wanted to bring those two parts back together.” As DJ and producer Barry Can’t Swim, Mainnie has had a meteoric rise since the release of his 2021 debut EP  Amor Fati  and 2023 album  When Will We Land? . Blending emotive melody with thumping electronic percussion and expertly chopped vocal samples, Mainnie’s signature has become a feel-good dance-floor communion. For his second album,  Loner , Mainnie turns inwards to explore his rise to fame, moving from the spoken-word soul-searching of “The Person You’d Like to Be” to the trance synths of “About to Begin” and soulful horn fanfares of “Childhood,” all while keeping his introspection anchored in the joy that has...

Lo-files

Lo-files Album ∙ Instrumental ∙ 2025 Bring Me The Horizon Following up their seventh studio album,  POST HUMAN: NeX GEn , UK metalcore superstars Bring Me The Horizon return with a collection of lo-fi instrumental versions of fan favorites. The 23-track release sees BMTH collaborating with some of their favorite lo-fi producers, who reimagine the band’s 2013 superhit “Can You Feel My Heart” (Casiio and No Spirit), 2020’s “Parasite Eve” (Mondo Loops), 2024 “YOUtopia” (lophiile), and many others. Belgian producer Drxnk takes on five tracks, including “Doomed,” “Kool-Aid,” and BMTH’s standalone 2023 single, “LosT.” Stripped of singer Oli Sykes’ vocals, the songs leave room for reflection—and maximum space for fans to hum along.

SWAG

Image
SWAG Album ∙ Pop ∙ 2025 Justin Bieber The day before the surprise release of Justin Bieber’s seventh album, a series of billboards popped up from Atlanta to Reykjavik—earnest black-and-white photos of the shirtless superstar posing with his wife, Hailey Bieber, and their infant son, Jack Blues, taken by the same photographer who shot the cover art for Kendrick Lamar’s  Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers . In the months before, the 31-year-old was unusually candid, sharing esoteric demos and posting frankly about his struggles with mental health and fame: “Don’t you think if I could have fixed myself I would have already?” he wrote on Instagram in June. Beside the photos was a single word: SWAG. A lot has changed in the four years since the pop icon’s last record, 2021’s  Justice —from a split with longtime manager Scooter Braun to the birth of his first child in August 2024. Meanwhile, it was rumored (correctly, it would turn out) that he’d been quietly working with producers l...

BELOVED

Image
BELOVED Album ∙ R&B/Soul ∙ 2025 GIVĒON GIVĒON has been working on his craft these past few years, and the fruits of his labor are resplendent on  BELOVED , a love letter to R&B that has the timeless feel of ’70s soul sides while possessing a distinctly 21st-century sensibility. “There’s that element where I’m doing this because it’s in my DNA,” GIVĒON tells Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I didn’t choose music. I tell people all the time, ‘I didn’t choose it. It chose me.’ But I care about rhythm and blues. It means a lot to me.” BELOVED  starts off in a big way: Surging strings create a high-drama atmosphere that sets the mood for “MUD,” a poison-pen letter to an ex that’s given a cushion by GIVĒON's supple croon and the sonic splendor surrounding it. Not only does the song send a message to the person who did GIVĒON wrong, it lets listeners know that the singer-songwriter has leveled up in the years since his last album, 2022’s  Give or Take . “I think I grew as an ar...

Until Night Comes

Image
Until Night Comes Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 Larry June  &  Cardo Got Wings Whether paired with the likes of The Alchemist, Harry Fraud, or production duo LNDN DRGS, Bay Area-hailing MC Larry June is motivation in motion—a lifestyle salesman committed to telling tales rife with bike rides and unabashed organic living. June’s chemistry with celebrated beatsmith Cardo Got Wings (Travis Scott, Baby Keem, and Playboi Carti), however, has proven over the course of four projects to be something else altogether. Cardo, to be clear, has served as go-to producer for a bevy of popular MCs, but there’s an undeniable synergy that surfaces in his work with June. Or as Uncle Herm says on project opener, it adds “a guaranteed slight edge.” In tow on the duo’s fifth outing together are Bay Area legends E-40 (“Ya Feel Me”) and Richie Rich (“Until Night Comes”), Cactus Jack label melody specialist Don Toliver (“100 Bags”), and one-time Cashout Boyz standouts Payroll Giovanni and HBK. They, ...

No Sign of Weakness

Image
No Sign of Weakness Album ∙ Afro-fusion ∙ 2025 Burna Boy The man who in 2019 knew well enough to declare himself the  African Giant  may not have needed a Mick Jagger collaboration to certify his rock-star bona fides, but with his eighth studio album,  No Sign of Weakness , that is what Burna Boy saw fit to deliver. “Shout-out to Naomi Campbell,” the Nigerian-born superstar tells Apple Music’s Ebro Darden. “It was literally her idea. She was like, ‘You and Mick Jagger would be so legendary.’ And she pressed about it for so long.” The song is called “Empty Chairs” and is a unique classic-rock/Afrobeats hybrid—just one of a wealth of disparate vibes Burna explores across  No Sign of Weakness , an album whose title implies a plan for continued dominance while asserting a pronounced lack of fear in his musical practice. “I was trying to make something that I haven’t made before,” Burna says. “In a sense that I’m trying to do the opposite of everything I’ve ever done—in a...
