THY KINGDOM COME

Image
THY KINGDOM COME Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 $uicideboy$ The New Orleans-born cousins (Ruby da Cherry and Scrim) have little in the way of crossover hits or mainstream press. But since emerging on SoundCloud in 2014 with their depressive, Memphis-inspired blend of horrorcore, witch house, and emo rap, the duo’s nihilism has proved surprisingly potent—their Grey Day Tour was the third-highest-grossing rap tour of 2024. On their fifth album,  THY KINGDOM COME  (a modest catalog, until you count the additional nine mixtapes and 30-plus EPs they’ve released in just over a decade), $uicideboy$ mostly stick to their bread and butter: themes of addiction and abjection, morose yet baroque titles, and the rap game’s bleakest flexes. (“Smokin’ on shit that smell like body rot,” they chant on BONES collab “Now and at the Hour of Our Death.”) But occasionally, a bit of levity creeps in, be it a jubilant sample of a NOLA bounce classic (Big Freedia’s “Gin in My System”) on “Napoleon” or the...

Metro Boomin Presents: A Futuristic Summa (Hosted by DJ Spinz)

Image
Metro Boomin Presents: A Futuristic Summa (Hosted by DJ Spinz) Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 Metro Boomin One of the most impactful producers of the 21st century, Metro Boomin has earned household-name status in hip-hop and beyond. Those who’ve tracked his hitmaking journey to the top will no doubt express a fondness for his 2010s run, which soundtracked Atlanta’s rise with countless rap talents, several of whom remain bona fide stars to this day. Hosted by DJ Spinz, another ATL fixture responsible for more than a few of the area’s biggest singles, the painstakingly curatorial  A Futuristic Summa  taps back in with many of the rappers, producers, and most importantly the vibes of that very era—albeit with some modern touches. The party sensibility begins early on with peppy cuts like “I Want It All” and “They Wanna Have Fun,” the latter featuring Gucci Mane with a gratifyingly nostalgic flow. The 808 bump that built so much Southern hip-hop bursts through on the Freaknik-conjurin...

Music for the Soul

Image
Music for the Soul Album ∙ Country ∙ 2025 Sam Barber Though he first found fame through his viral hit “Straight and Narrow,” Sam Barber proves he’s anything but a flash in the pan on this EP, which follows his 2024 full-length debut  Restless Mind . Anchored by another hit, “Man of the Year,” the seven-song collection charts a formative time period for the 22-year-old Barber, whose whirlwind rise to fame began in his late teens and is chronicled on  Restless Mind . Picking up where that album left off,  Music for the Soul  opens with its title track, which seems to serve as a mission statement for Barber’s blooming artistry as he sings, “Well, I know this ain't the bar song you wanna hear, but I make music for the soul.” “Nowhere Fast” is soulful and searching, as Barber tries on heartland rock to make sense of the major life changes he’s experienced in recent years, while songs like “Dust and Smoke” and “Same Sad Shit” play off the early-2010s-inspired folk-rock sou...

Homixide Lifestyle 2

Image
Homixide Lifestyle 2 Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 Homixide Gang If simply comparing album titles and cover art, not much has changed for the duo of Homixide Beno and Homixide Meechie, collectively known as Homixide Gang, since they released  Homixide Lifestyle  in 2022. Don’t be fooled, though—plenty is different for the Opium-affiliated artists since that project helped introduce them to fans of the Playboi Carti extended universe. They dropped two projects in 2023 and another in 2024, all paving the way for their 2025 epic, the 25-song  Homixide Lifestyle 2 . There’s plenty of new ideas unearthed on this effort: Take the way they distance themselves from rage rap on the triumphant, playful Pi’erre Bourne-produced “FREE AGENTS” and the slowed-down narcotized triumph of “CALL ON ME.” Of course, “PC5” and “VILLAIN” find them moshing as hard as ever before. Millo Gangster Club

Image
Millo Gangster Club Album ∙ Latin ∙ 2025 Bryant Myers When Latin trap was surging in the mid- to late 2010s, Bryant Myers proved a consistent, reliably ever-present rap star. Some five years after his last solo album, 2020’s  Bendecido , he’s now linked with Rimas for this long-awaited full-length follow-up,  Millo Gangster Club . Beginning with reflective opener “Cualquiera Tiene Ticket,” he reinforces his trapero reputation while reminding listeners of his rags-to-riches come-up. Seizing the opportunity, he rightfully centers himself as an OG in his field through cuts like the DJ Nelson-produced “Burlao” and the Eladio Carrión-aided “Push.” On “5G,” he constructs a formidable posse cut with Hades66, trap capo Noriel, and longtime cohort Miky Woodz. Part of his core appeal, the sexual provocations of “Duro Ma” with Dei V and SAIKO, and “Rolling Door,” further recall of the thuggish loverman side of his catalog. And while most of the tracks find him firmly in his luxe yet grim...

Luka Troncic 2

Image
Luka Troncic 2 Album ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap ∙ 2025 BabyTron Throughout his career, the rapid-spitting rapper BabyTron has married his love of hip-hop with his devotion to the NBA. There was  Sleeve Nash  in 2020, the original  Luka Troncic  in 2021, and on 2023’s  MegaTron 2  he had a song called “90’s Bulls.” The second edition of the  Luka Troncic  series kicks off with “Luka Magic,” a cut that nods to the Los Angeles Laker and his point-guard predecessor, Magic Johnson. Tron isn’t focused only on superstars, though: On that song in particular, he mentions veteran role player Kyle Kuzma. “77” pays tribute to Luka Doncic’s number and features a joyous throwback beat that plays with Detroit’s early techno roots. Focus too much on hooping, though, and you’ll miss the real star of  Luka Troncic 2 : BabyTron himself.     Anxiety Tracker: HRV Tracker App ∙ Health & Fitness ∙ 2025 嘉泽 徐 Understand Your Body & Mind ...
